Planting seeds of wisdom while watering the garden of imagination and fertilising the heart.

Stories remind us who we are, reflecting our own stories and connecting us to the greater web of experience past and present. Created in collaboration with artists and musicians and drawing on her experience in environmental children’s theatre, Milly Jackdaw storytelling performances are moving and exciting, sensitive and robust with an energetic and highly visual style that has broad appeal. Milly’s mission is to awaken the listener to the wonders of the natural world and to inspire compassion. She explores how the landscapes of human psyche, folklore and the environment all reflect each other, and delves into deeper levels of connectivity and potential healing. Milly’s inspiration comes from the power of stories to mirror our own journey and help us along the way. Through stories we see ourselves from the outside and have the chance to make more conscious choices.

Milly’s particular talent is in adapting and presenting material to be accessible to a wide audience. Her storytelling is filled with humour, poetry, songs and of course, audience participation. She may be engaged as a solo performer or with one or more musicians. Peter Stevenson also known as Mr Fox, joins Milly on concertina, banjo, dulcimer, guitar and a whole host other amazing stringed instruments from around the globe including gourd banjo from Africa, the dutar or central Asian lute and dombra from Russia (he wants an oud, have you got one you don’t want anymore?) Peter is an accomplished storyteller himself and can be engaged in this capacity. Ailsa Mair Hughes weaves cello into the stories plus a range of other sounds and voices.

Milly has told stories in a whole host of settings to people of all ages from many different walks of life and loves the challenge of responding in the moment, conjuring up the right tale for the occasion. Themes include Trees, Animals, Birds, Amphibians, The Sea, Environment, Love, Compassion and Wisdom.
